Feroza Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGI JKJK LDLD

The evening sky was as green as JadeA
As Emerald turf by Lotus lakeB
Behind the Kafila far she strayedA
The Pearls are lost if the Necklace breakB
-
A lingering freshness touched the airC
From palm trees clustered around a SpringD
The great grim Desert lay vast and bareC
But Youth is ever a careless thingD
-
The Raiders threw her upon the sandE
Men of the Wilderness know no lawsF
They tore the Amethysts off her handE
And rent the folds of her veiling gauzeF
-
They struck the lips that they might have kissedG
Pitiless they to her pain and fearH
And wrenched the gold from her broken wristG
No use to cry there were none to hearI
-
Her scarlet mouth and her onyx eyesJ
Her braided hair in its silken sheenK
Were surely meet for a Lover's prizeJ
But Fate dissented and stepped betweenK
-
Across the Zenith the vultures flyL
Cruel of beak and heavy of wingD
Thus it was written that she should dieL
Inshallah Death is a transient thingD
