To A Child Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCB DEFE GHIH JKLK LMNO LPQP RKS

When I was a child I sawA
a burning bird in a treeB
I see became I amC
I am became I seeB
-
In winter dawns of frostD
the lamp swung in my handE
The battered moon on the slopeF
lay like a dune of sandE
-
and in the trap at my feetG
the rabbit leapt and prayedH
weeping blood and crouchedI
when the light shone on the bladeH
-
The sudden sun lit upJ
the webs from wire to wireK
the white webs the white dewL
blazed with a holy fireK
-
Flame of light in the dewL
flame of blood on the bushM
answered the whirling sunN
and the voice of the early thrushO
-
I think of this for youL
I would not have you believeP
the world is empty of truthQ
or that men must grieveP
-
but hear the song of the martyrsR
out of a bush of fireK
'All is consumed with loveS
all is renewed with desire '-
