The Surfer Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCDEFFGDG CHHD DIIDJK

He thrust his joy against the weight of the seaA
climbed through slid under those long banks ofB
foamC
hawthorn hedges in spring thorns in the face stingingD
How his brown strength drove through the hollow and coilE
of green through weirs of waterF
Muscle of arm thrust down long muscle of waterF
and swimming so went out of sightG
where mortal masterful frail the gulls went wheelingD
in air as he in water with delightG
-
Turn home the sun goes down swimmer turn homeC
Last leaf of gold vanishes from the sea curveH
Take the big roller s shoulder speed and serveH
come to the long beach home like a gull divingD
-
For on the sand the grey wolf sea lies snarlingD
cold twilight wind splits the waves hair and showsI
the bones they worry in their wolf teeth O wind blowsI
and sea crouches on sand fawning and mouthingD
drops there and snatches again drops and again snatchesJ
its broken toys its whitened pebbles and shellsK
