Lyrebirds Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGGG HIGGCJKJ ELGMJ

Over the west side of the mountainA
that s lyrebird countryB
I could go down there they say in the early morningC
and I d see them I d hear themD
-
Ten years and I have never goneE
I ll never goF
I ll never see the lyrebirdsG
the few the shy the fabulousG
the dying poetsG
-
I should see them if I lay there in the dewH
first a single movementI
like a waterdrop falling then stillnessG
then a brown head brown eyesG
a splendid bird bearingC
like a crest the symbol of his artJ
the high symmetrical shape of the perfect lyreK
I should hear that master practising his artJ
-
No I have never goneE
Some things ought to be left secret aloneL
some things birds like walking fablesG
ought to inhabit nowhere but the reverence of theM
heartJ
