To An Infant Daughter. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AAABAC DDDEDE FFFGFG HHHHHH IIIJIJ

Sweet gem of infant fairy flowersA
Thy smiles on life' unclosing hoursA
Like sunbeams lost in summer showersA
They wake my fearsB
When reason knows its sweets and soursA
They'll change to tearsC
-
God help thee little senseless thingD
Thou daisy like of early springD
Of ambush'd winter's hornet stingD
Hast yet to tellE
Thou know'st not what to morrows bringD
I wish thee wellE
-
But thou art come and soon or lateF
'Tis thine to meet the frowns of fateF
The harpy grin of envy's hateF
And mermaid smilesG
Of worldly folly's luring baitF
That youth beguilesG
-
And much I wish whate'er may beH
The lot my child that falls to theeH
Nature may never let thee seeH
Her glass betimesH
But keep thee from my failings freeH
Nor itch at rhymesH
-
Lord knows my heart it loves thee muchI
And may my feelings aches and suchI
The pains I meet in folly's clutchI
Be never thineJ
Child it's a tender string to touchI
That sounds thou'rt mineJ
