The Tomb Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABBACADCECFFGGOnce musing o'er an old effaced stone | A |
Longing to know whose dust it did conceal | B |
I anxious ponder'd o'er what might reveal | B |
And sought the seeming date with weeds o'ergrown | A |
But that prov'd fruitless both the date and name | C |
Had been for ages in oblivion thrown | A |
The dim remains of sculptur'd ornament | D |
Gave proof sufficient 'twas reward for fame | C |
This did my searching view so much torment | E |
That Time I question'd to expose the same | C |
But soon a check And what is it to thee | F |
Whose dust lies here since thou wilt quickly be | F |
Forgot like him then Time shall bid thee go | G |
To heaven's pure bliss or hell's tormenting woe | G |
