The Soldier Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCCDDEEBBFF

Home furthest off grows dearer from the wayA
And when the army in the Indias layA
Friends' letters coming from his native placeB
Were like old neighbours with their country faceB
And every opportunity that cameC
Opened the sheet to gaze upon the nameC
Of that loved village where he left his sheepD
For more contented peaceful folk to keepD
And friendly faces absent many a yearE
Would from such letters in his mind appearE
And when his pockets chafing through the caseB
Wore it quite out ere others took the placeB
Right loath to be of company bereftF
He kept the fragments while a bit was leftF
