The Maiden's Welcome Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFG GHIJKLJL MNONNBPB QRSRTUVU MCWCXYZA2

Of all the swains that meet at eveA
Upon the green to playB
The shepherd is the lad for meC
And I'll ne'er say him nayB
Though father glowers beneath his hatD
And mother talks of bedE
I'll take my cloak up late or soonF
To meet my shepherd ladG
-
Aunt Kitty loved a soldier ladG
Who left her love for warH
A sailor loved my sister SueI
Whose jacket smelt of tarJ
But my love's sweet as land new ploughedK
He is my heart's delightL
And he ne'er leaves his love so farJ
But he can come at nightL
-
So father he may glower and frownM
And mother scold about itN
The shepherd has my heart to keepO
And can I live without itN
I'm sure he will not part with itN
In spite of what they sayB
And if he would as sure I amP
It would not come awayB
-
So friends may frown while I can smileQ
To know I'm loved by oneR
Who has my heart and him to seekS
What better can be doneR
And be it Spring or Summer bothT
Or be it Winter coldU
If pots should freeze upon the fireV
I'd meet him at the foldU
-
I'm fain to make my wedding gownM
Which he has bought for meC
But it will wake my mother's thoughtsW
And evil they will beC
Although he has but stole my heartX
Which gives me nought of painY
For bye and bye he'll buy the ringZ
And bring my heart againA2
