The crow sat on the willow treeA
A lifting up his wingsB
And glossy was his coat to seeA
And loud the ploughman singsB
'I love my love because I knowC
The milkmaid she loves me'D
And hoarsely croaked the glossy crowC
Upon the willow treeA
'I love my love' the ploughman sungE
And all the fields with music rungE
-
'I love my love a bonny lassF
She keeps her pails so brightG
And blythe she trips the dewy grassF
At morning and at nightG
A cotton dress her morning gownH
Her face was rosy healthI
She traced the pastures up and downH
And nature was her wealth '-
He sung and turned each furrow downH
His sweetheart's love in cotton gownH
-
'My love is young and handsomeD
As any in the townH
She's worth a ploughman's ransomD
In the drab cotton gown '-
He sang and turned his furrow oerA
And urged his team alongJ
While on the willow as beforeA
The old crow croaked his songJ
The ploughman sung his rustic layK
And sung of Phoebe all the dayK
-
The crow he was in love no doubtL
And so were many thingsB
The ploughman finished many a boutL
And lustily he singsB
'My love she is a milking maidM
With red rosy cheekN
Of cotton drab her gown was madeM
I loved her many a week '-
His milking maid the ploughman sungE
Till all the fields around him rungE
