Song. "there Was A Time, When Love's Young Flowers" Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBD EFEFBCBD BGBGBHBH

There was a time when love's young flowersA
With many a joy my bosom prestB
Sweet hours of bliss but short are hoursA
Those hours are fled and I'm distrestB
I would not wish in reason's spiteB
I would not wish new joy to gainC
I only wish for one delightB
To see those hours of bliss againD
-
There was a day when love was youngE
And nought but bliss did there belongF
When blackbirds nestling o'er us sungE
Ah me what sweetness wak'd his songF
I wish not springs for ever fledB
I wish not birds' forgotten strainC
I only wish for feelings deadB
To warm and wake and feel againD
-
But ah what once was joy is pastB
The time's gone by the day and hourG
Are whirring fled on trouble's blastB
As winter nips the summer flowerG
A shadow is but left the mindB
Of joys that once were real to viewH
An echo only fills the windB
With mocking sounds that once were trueH
