Song. "the Sultry Day It Wears Away" Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHDHIJKL LMNOLPQP RSTULLVL

The sultry day it wears awayA
And o'er the distant leasB
The mist again in purple stainC
Falls moist on flower and treesB
His home to find the weary hindD
Glad leaves his carts and ploughsE
While maidens fair with bosoms bareF
Go coolly to their cowsE
-
The red round sun his work has doneG
And dropp'd into his bedH
And sweetly shin'd the oaks behindD
His curtain fring'd with redH
And step by step the night has creptI
And day as loth retiresJ
But clouds more dark night's entrance markK
Till day's last spark expiresL
-
Pride of the vales the nightingalesL
Now charm the oaken groveM
And loud and long with amorous tongueN
They try to please their loveO
And where the rose reviving blowsL
Upon the swelter'd bowerP
I'll take my seat my love to meetQ
And wait th' appointed hourP
-
And like the bird whose joy is heardR
Now he his love can joinS
Who hails so loud the even shroudT
I'll wait as glad for mineU
As weary bees o'er parched leasL
Now meet reviving flowersL
So on her breast I'll sink to restV
And bless the evening hoursL
