Song. "on Gloomy Eve I Roam'd About" Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGHGH

On gloomy eve I roam'd aboutA
'Neath Oxey's hazel bowersB
While timid hares were darting outA
To crop the dewy flowersB
And soothing was the scene to meC
Right pleased was my soulD
My breast was calm as summer's seaC
When waves forget to rollD
-
But short was even's placid smileE
My startled soul to charmF
When Nelly lightly skipt the stileE
With milk pail on her armF
One careless look on me she flungG
As bright as parting dayH
And like a hawk from covert sprungG
It pounc'd my peace awayH
