Mary Neele Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCBDEFE GHIHJEKE LMLMNELE JLOLKEEE LPJPLEQE KCLCKEKE

My love is tall and handsomeA
All hearts she might commandB
She's matchless for her beautyC
The queen of all the landB
She has my heart in keepingD
For which there's no repealE
For the fairest of all woman kindF
Is my love Mary NeeleE
-
I felt my soul enchantedG
To view this turtle doveH
That lately seems descendedI
From heavenly bowers of loveH
And might I have the fortuneJ
My wishes could revealE
I'd turn my back on splendourK
And fly to Mary NeeleE
-
She is the flower of nationsL
The diamond of my eyeM
All others are but glowormsL
That in her splendour dieM
As shining stars all vanishN
When suns their light revealE
So beauties shrink to shadowsL
At the feet of Mary NeeleE
-
I ask no better fortuneJ
Than to embrace her charmsL
Like Plato I would laugh at wealthO
While she was in my armsL
And if I cannot gain herK
From grief there's no appealE
My joy my pain my life my allE
Are fixed with Mary NeeleE
-
The stone of vain philosophersL
That wonder working toyP
The golden fleece of JasonJ
That Helen stole from TroyP
The beauty and the richesL
That all these fames unsealE
Are nothing all and less than thatQ
Compared to Mary NeeleE
-
O if I cannot gain herK
Right wretched must I beC
And caves and lonely mountainsL
Must be the life for meC
To pine in gloom and sorrowK
And hide the deaths I feelE
For light nor life I may not shareK
When lost to Mary NeeleE
