Childhood. Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABBCBCBBDEDEWhat trifles touch our feelings when we view | A |
The simple scenes of Childhood's early day | B |
Pausing on spots where gather'd blossoms grew | A |
Or favour'd seats of many a childish play | B |
Bush dyke or wood where painted pooties lay | B |
Where oft we've crept and crept the shades among | C |
Where ivy hung old roots bemoss'd with grey | B |
Where nettles oft our infant fingers stung | C |
And tears would weep the gentle wounds away | B |
Ah gentle wounds indeed I well may say | B |
To those sad Manhood's tortur'd passage found | D |
Where naked Fate each day new pangs doth feel | E |
Clearing away the brambles that surround | D |
Inflicting tortures death can only heal | E |
