After Reading In A Letter Proposals For Building A Cottage Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAC DEDE FGFG HAHI JKJK LMNM OPOP QRSR TUTD

Beside a runnel build my shedA
With stubbles cover'd o'erB
Let broad oaks o'er its chimney spreadA
And grass plats grace the doorC
-
The door may open with a stringD
So that it closes tightE
And locks would be a wanted thingD
To keep out thieves at nightE
-
A little garden not too fineF
Inclose with painted palesG
And woodbines round the cot to twineF
Pin to the wall with nailsG
-
Let hazels grow and spindling sedgeH
Bent bowering over headA
Dig old man's beard from woodland hedgeH
To twine a summer shadeI
-
Beside the threshold sods provideJ
And build a summer seatK
Plant sweet briar bushes by its sideJ
And flowers that blossom sweetK
-
I love the sparrow's ways to watchL
Upon the cotter's shedsM
So here and there pull out the thatchN
That they may hide their headsM
-
And as the sweeping swallows stopO
Their flights along the greenP
Leave holes within the chimney topO
To paste their nest betweenP
-
Stick shelves and cupboards round the hutQ
In all the holes and nooksR
Nor in the corner fail to putS
A cupboard for the booksR
-
Along the floor some sand I'll siftT
To make it fit to live inU
And then I'll thank ye for the giftT
As something worth the givingD
