Mine Host Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCD EFEFGG

There stands a hostel by a travelled wayA
Life is the road and Death the worthy hostB
Each guest he greets nor ever lacks to sayA
How have ye fared They answer him the mostB
This lodging place is other than we soughtC
We had intended farther but the gloomD
Came on apace and found us ere we thoughtC
Yet will we lodge Thou hast abundant roomD
-
Within sit haggard men that speak no wordE
No fire gleams their cheerful welcome shedF
No voice of fellowship or strife is heardE
But silence of a multitude of deadF
Naught can I offer ye quoth Death but restG
And to his chamber leads each tired guestG
