Poets And Philosophers Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A BBCC DEFF GHII JAKK LLJA MMNN OOPP QQOO

Bacon Hogg Lamb and ShakespeareA
-
Bacon philosopher profoundB
With mighty thoughts his works aboundB
Reflections did his mind engageC
Were in advance of his own ageC
-
And Hogg the Ettrick shepherd bardD
High honors all do him awardE
Great fame and glory he did reapF
While tending to his flock of sheepF
-
And Lamb the gentle and the goodG
His works all show a happy moodH
About these names there is no wasteI
Pleasing to fancy and to tasteI
-
Some critics think they do make clearJ
The fact that Bacon wrote ShakespeareA
But a gent lives in New YorkK
Asks what effect will it have on porkK
-
Of course it would quick awakenL
A higher estimate of BaconL
But it is folly for to rearJ
His fame on ruins of ShakespeareA
-
Though Will was not college bredM
With Greek they did not cram his headM
But he well knew by translationsN
The history of the ancient nationsN
-
And mingled daily in the strifeO
With people in all walks of lifeO
His plays they are to nature trueP
Because he wrote of what he knewP
-
Alas that I have wandered here and thereQ
He does cry out in his despairQ
While he did lead a wandering lifeO
And left alone his loving wifeO
