For it doth love each night to feast | B |

When the Seapoys did rebel | A |
A strange adventure child befell | E |
An English Colonel and his wife | F |
They thought still distant was the strife | F |

And left their little girl at home | G |
While they to distant village roam | G |
And thus saved their lives from slaughter | H |
But rebels carried off their daughter | H |

Their servant woman a Hindoo | B |
They knew her to be kind and true | I |
It almost drove her crazy wild | B |
To see them dragging off the child | B |

The Colonel soon he doth return | J |
And in his breast fierce rage doth burn | J |
He knows the child is doomed to die | B |
But he the rebels will defy | B |

So quick he doth gird on his sword | B |
And asks for blessings from the Lord | B |
He puts his pistols in their case | K |
And carries with him trusty brace | K |

Seapoys by the river side | B |
Left child to drown in rising tide | B |
But Jackal went there for water | H |
And spied the Colonel's daughter | H |

He knew the river soon would rise | L |
So quick he carried off the prize | L |
Though love for child he does not feel | M |
He only wants her for a meal | M |

He ran with her towards the south | N |
Carrying her in his broad mouth | N |
The Colonel had a strong desire | H |
On this savage beast for to fire | H |

But from it he refrained for fear | O |
The ball might strike his little dear | O |
He saw that brute was now weary | P |
Running with his little dearie | P |

So he then quickly gave it chase | K |
And full soon then he gained the race | K |
The coward beast then dropped the child | B |
And fled away in terror wild | B |

With joy Colonel he doth weep | Q |
When he finds babe is still asleep | Q |
And on it neither scar nor trace | K |
Can disfigure its fair face | K |

And now he takes it in his arms | R |
With joy and pride surveys its charms | R |
We fear that kisses did it smother | P |
When he handed it to mother | P |
