Brantford Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EEFF GGHI JJII KKII LMII IINN

In these sketches of towns in Western Ontario we are not vain enoughA
to suppose that because we have produced some rhymes thereonB
that said rhymes are poetry If we furnish an occasional poetic gleamC
like a dewdropp sparkling in the sun it is all we dare hope forD
-
Brantford as thriving city's famedE
And after Indian chief is namedE
And here the sparkling Grand riverF
It doth flow a joy foreverF
-
Campbell he sang a dismal taleG
Of horrors of Wyonming's valeG
The tale one's mind doth ever hauntH
The cruelties of monster BrantI
-
But the chief's son to England wentJ
And Campbell to him did lamentJ
And all the tale he did recantI
About cruel butcheries of BrantI
-
Now pleasant thoughts it doth awakeK
When Brantford thinks of her namesakeK
She evermore with pride will chantI
The bold heroic name of BrantI
-
We sing of two great Indian namesL
Tecumseh on the banks of ThamesM
And the Grand River it doth vauntI
Of the historic name of BrantI
-
The city's pride it doth find ventI
In building him a monumentI
And Indians will proudly stalkN
Past memorial of great MohawkN
