Baby Darling Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABB CCDD EEFF GGHH IJEE KKLL MMNK

A miner in California mineA
For his distant home he did repineA
In a far off Eastern stateB
Where did live his own dear mateB
-
And one great source of all his joyC
His little darling baby boyC
One night to drive his cares awayD
To concert hall his footsteps strayD
-
And loud resounding o'er the hallE
He heard a little boy squallE
The sweetest music he e'er heardF
Sweeter far than singing birdF
-
For his thoughts it caused to roamG
To his distant eastern homeG
Near to the mine there were no traceH
Of baby dear or woman's faceH
-
When violinist with his bowI
Did make exquisite music flowJ
The miner he did loudly bawlE
Stop fiddle and let baby squallE
-
My sad heart his cries doth cheerK
Reminding me of my own dearK
For sooner I would him beholdL
Than if I found a mine of goldL
-
For what are all the joys of lifeM
So far away from child and wifeM
But few more months I will stay hereN
Then join my wife and baby dearK
