This Bard's to me a whole souled manC
In honesty and mightD
For when he sees Wrong in the vanC
He leaps like any KnightD
To horse and charging on the wrongE
Smites it with the great sword of SongE

Beneath the cassock of the PriestF
There throbs another heartG
Another but 'tis not the leastF
Which in his Lays takes partG
So that 'mid clash of Swords and SpearsH
There is no lack of Pity's tearsI

This other heart is brave and softJ
As such hearts always areK
And plumes itself a bird aloftL
When Morning's gates unbarK
Till high it soars above the sodM
Bathed in the very light of GodM

I find within these LaysO
And the closer still th' Verse I scanC
The more I see to praiseO
Some of these Lyrics shower downP
The glories of the Cross and CrownP

To thee oh Bard my head I bowQ
As I'd not to a KingR
And my last word writ here and nowQ
Is not a little thingR
Recall the promise of thy strainS
Thou art to come and sing againT
