Here I lay
prostrate
in midst of darkness
sandwiched
in windy breeze
lightening
glittering:
in distance
sign of rain
will there be thunder?
will he come
in that thunderous thunderbolt?
how do I say no! thunder?!

you weren't seen yesterday
in the rain
lightening flash you sent
messenger of your coming
scale in hand
guilty lined up
scared:
conscience in sin in guilt
arraigned in your magisterium
await your coming
adjournment I seek
how can I say don't come?

I saw you in John 3:16
preached love
a prodigal I am
unworthy
sullied
to soil your communion
dreading!
your laughter
thunder
no! don't strike!
father forgive me for I have sinned!

I soured my country's treasury
contracts padded to Jericho
ballot fed with bloodied roses
no don't strike!
married to centuries
of side chicks
no don't strike!
cocotte in 7th avenue
don't strike still!
freebooter engraved on forehead
choleric stamped
no! no! I say no!

o mountains fall on me!
o hills cover me!
don't let your thunder boil
tarry till tomorrow tarries
when sunshine feeds
on breakfast till
absolution invoked:
go and sin no more
palms together
angelic steps to the pew
five chaplets to the heavens
atonement sought
thunder thawed...
