To Censorinus. Iv-8 (from The Odes Of Horace) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDCDEAFAAGAGHAIA JKLKAMAMANKNON

With kindly thought I'd give Oh CensorinusA
Bowls and bronze vases pleasing to each friendB
Tripods I'd offer prizes of brave GreciansA
And not the worst of gifts to you I'd sendB
Were I forsooth rich in such artist's treasureC
As Scopas and Parrhasius could conveyD
This one in stone and that in liquid colorC
Skilled here a man a god there to portrayD
But mine no power like this nor does your spiritE
Or your affairs need luxuries so choiceA
Songs we can give and on the gift set valueF
Songs we can give and you in songs rejoiceA
Not marble carved with popular inscriptionsA
Whereby the spirit and the life returnG
After their death unto our upright leadersA
Nor Hannibal's swift flight nor threatenings sternG
Thrown back on him nor flames from impious CarthageH
Ever more clearly pointed out the praiseA
Of him who after Africa was conqueredI
Acquired a name than did the Calabrian laysA
And you would lose if writings should be silentJ
The price of all that you so well have doneK
And Romulus his fame had envy silencedL
Where had he been great Mars and Ilia's sonK
acus rescued from the Stygian watersA
The genius the favor and the tongueM
Of mighty bards sent to the blessed islandsA
He cannot die whose praise the Muse has sungM
The Muse can deify So tireless HerculesA
In Jove's desired banquets has a shareN
And the Tyndarid 's clear constellationK
Of ships wrecked in the lowest depths takes careN
Liber his brows adorned with living vine leafO
Brings to good issue every honest prayerN
