I've a friend beyond the oceanA
So regardful so sincereB
And he sends me in a letterC
Such a pretty souvenirB
-
It is crushed to death and witheredD
Out of shape and very flatE
But its pure delicious odorC
Is the richer for all thatE
-
'Tis a rose from HonoluluF
And it bears the tropic brandG
Sandwiched in this friendly missiveH
From that far off flower landG
-
It shall mingle pot a pourriC
With the scents I love and keepI
Some of them so very preciousJ
That remembrance makes me weepI
-
While I dream I hear the musicK
That of happiness foretellsJ
Like the flourishing of trumpetsJ
And the sound of marriage bellsJ
-
There's a rose upon the prairieC
Chosen his by happy fateL
He shall gather when he comethM
Sailing through the Golden GateL
-
Mine a public posy growingN
Somewhere by the garden wallO
Might have gone to any strangerC
May have been admired by allO
-
But the rose in beauty blushingN
Tenderly and sweetly grownP
In the home and its affectionsJ
Blooms for him and him aloneP
-
Speed the voyager returningN
His shall be a welcome warmQ
With the Rose of MinnesotaR
Gently resting on his armS
-
Love embraces in his kingdomT
Earth and sea and sky and airC
Hail Columbia hail HawaiiC
It is Heaven everywhereC
