AttheflicksPod: Gone With The Wind (1939): Victor Fleming classic (with help from George Cukor and Sam Wood), with screenplay by Sidney Howard and based on Margaret Mitchell’s novel. Record breaking at the box office and the Oscars (incl Hattie McDaniel being the first black person to win one).

Son_of_Howard: The thing that trips me is the Oscars were stained long before Will Smith slapped Chris Rock. They were stained when Hattie McDaniel couldn’t accept her award. They were stained when the wins black people did win were for roles that put black people in a negative light.

ErnoNutting: ... natch Robin Nedwell & The fantastic Diane Keen and Trevor Howard Arrival of a pop star & wifey upsets local yokels in A Backwater Brass Band. And I've just spotted the National Treasure that was John le Mesurier aka Mr. Hattie Jacques seriously cuckòlded hubby.

ashleyeleigh: If the Academy was real they’d replace Hattie McDaniel’s missing Oscar and give it to Howard like she wanted.

thurljawn: We still don't know who stole Hattie McDaniels Oscar from Howard University:

KiranBalak: This is Hattie McDaniels, first black to win as Oscar. Her death was as tragic as her life. She had 2 last wishes: 1) To be buried in the Hollywood Cemetery after death. 2)Her Oscar trophy to be gifted to d Howard University to inspire future generations

BlkAssFeminist: I’m learning so much from this book. Howard lost Hattie McDaniel’s Oscar? Sammy Davis Jr had a fake marriage to a Black woman bc he couldn’t leave the Beckies alone and the mob was after him? Boston used to be racially progressive? The tea is piping hot & I love it.

ByClaytonDavis: "Before McDaniel died in October 1952, she specified that her prize should be donated to Howard University. There are countless myths about where it could be. Was it destroyed by racists? Or just misplaced at McDaniel’s estate sale?"

Troll2Trollarmy: Actress Hattie McDaniel left her Oscar to Howard University and came up missing. It has never been recovered. If anyone knows where this is there is a $1,000 reward for its return so her legacy is truly remembered.

SofiaVilaret: Unfortunately, the praise was not enough for Hollywood to change and Hattie was never offered the breakthrough part she deserved. To top it all, Howard University deemed her Oscar valueless. It went missing and it was never recovered.
