Thanksgiving Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDED FGFGHIJI KLKLMINI JOJOPDQD RSRTUVWV

Nature erewhile so marvelously lovely is bereftA
Of her supernal charmB
And with the few dead garlands of departed splendor leftA
Like crape upon her armB
In boreal hints and sudden gustsC
That fan the glowing emberD
By multitude of ways fulfillsE
The promise of NovemberD
-
Upon the path where Beauty sylvan priestess sped awayF
Lies the rich afterglowG
Of Indian Summer bringing round the happy holidayF
That antedates the snowG
The glad Thanksgiving time the cheerH
The festival commotionI
That stirs fraternal feeling fromJ
The mountains to the oceanI
-
O Hospitality unclose thy bounty laden handK
In generous dealing whereL
Is gathered in reunion each long severed household bandK
And let no vacant chairL
Show where the strongest brightest linkM
In love's dear chain is brokenI
A symbol more pathetic thanN
By language ever spokenI
-
Into the place held sacred to the memory of someJ
Beloved absenteeO
Perchance passed to the other shore oh let the stranger comeJ
And in gratuityO
Partake of festal favors thatP
Shall sweeten hours of laborD
And strengthen amity and loveQ
Unto his friend and neighborD
-
Let gratitude's pure incense in warm orisons ascendR
A blessing to secureS
And gracious impulse bearing largesse of good gifts extendR
To all deserving poorT
So may the day be hallowed byU
Unstinted thanks and givingV
In sweet remembrance of the deadW
And kindness to the livingV
