Sorrow And Joy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABAAAB CDCCCE FGFFFG HIJHHI KLKKKL IMIIIM NOBNNPIn sad procession borne away | A |
To sound of funeral knell | B |
Affection's tribute thus we pay | A |
And in earth's shelt'ring bosom lay | A |
The friend to whom but yesterday | A |
We gave the sad farewell | B |
- | |
But scarce the melancholy sound | C |
Has died upon the ear | D |
Before the mournful dirge is drowned | C |
By wedding anthems' glad rebound | C |
That stir the solemn air around | C |
With merry peals and clear | E |
- | |
Within our home doth gladness tread | F |
So closely upon grief | G |
That in the tears of sorrow shed | F |
O'er our beloved lamented dead | F |
We see reflected joy instead | F |
That gives a blest relief | G |
- | |
A father and a daughter gone | H |
Beyond our fireside | I |
For one we loved and leaned upon | J |
The skillful archer Death had drawn | H |
His bow and one in life's sweet dawn | H |
Went out a happy bride | I |
- | |
We gave to Heaven in manhood's prime | K |
Him whose brave strength and worth | L |
Life's rugged steeps had taught to climb | K |
And her for whom a tuneful rhyme | K |
The bells of promise sweetly chime | K |
We consecrate to earth | L |
- | |
Thus each a mystic path untried | I |
Has entered God is just | M |
We leave with him our friend who died | I |
With him we leave our fair young bride | I |
Who shall no more with us abide | I |
And in His goodness trust | M |
- | |
Oh life and death uncertainty | N |
Bright hopes and anxious fears | O |
Commingle so bewilderingly | B |
That perfect joy we may not see | N |
Till all shall reunited be | N |
Beyond this vale of tears | P |
