Sorrow And Joy Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAAAB CDCCCE FGFFFG HIJHHI KLKKKL IMIIIM NOBNNP

In sad procession borne awayA
To sound of funeral knellB
Affection's tribute thus we payA
And in earth's shelt'ring bosom layA
The friend to whom but yesterdayA
We gave the sad farewellB
-
But scarce the melancholy soundC
Has died upon the earD
Before the mournful dirge is drownedC
By wedding anthems' glad reboundC
That stir the solemn air aroundC
With merry peals and clearE
-
Within our home doth gladness treadF
So closely upon griefG
That in the tears of sorrow shedF
O'er our beloved lamented deadF
We see reflected joy insteadF
That gives a blest reliefG
-
A father and a daughter goneH
Beyond our firesideI
For one we loved and leaned uponJ
The skillful archer Death had drawnH
His bow and one in life's sweet dawnH
Went out a happy brideI
-
We gave to Heaven in manhood's primeK
Him whose brave strength and worthL
Life's rugged steeps had taught to climbK
And her for whom a tuneful rhymeK
The bells of promise sweetly chimeK
We consecrate to earthL
-
Thus each a mystic path untriedI
Has entered God is justM
We leave with him our friend who diedI
With him we leave our fair young brideI
Who shall no more with us abideI
And in His goodness trustM
-
Oh life and death uncertaintyN
Bright hopes and anxious fearsO
Commingle so bewilderinglyB
That perfect joy we may not seeN
Till all shall reunited beN
Beyond this vale of tearsP
