November 'tis a summer's dayA
For tropic airs are blowingB
As soft as whispered roundelayC
From unseen lips that seem to sayA
To feathered songsters goingB
To sunnier southern climes afarD
Stay where you are stay where you areD
-
And other tokens glad as theseE
Declare that Summer lingersF
Round latent buds still hum the beesE
Slow fades the green from forest treesE
Ere Autumn's artist fingersF
Have touched the landscape and insteadG
Brought out the amber brown and redG
-
The invalid may yet enjoyH
His favorite recreationI
Gay romping girl unfettered boyH
In outdoor sports the time employH
And happy consummationI
Of prudent plans the farmer knowJ
Ere wintry breezes round him blowJ
-
And they by poverty controlledK
Good fortune shall betide themL
As scenes of beauty they beholdK
And seem to revel in the goldK
Which Plutus has denied themL
For ah the poor from want's despairM
Oft covet wealth they never shareM
