Christmas-tide Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBA CDDC ECCE FGGH IJJI KLMK NCCN

Let working clothes be laid asideA
And Industry in festal garb arrayedB
Let busy brain and hand from toil and tradeB
Relax at Christmas tideA
-
As moments pass by dial soC
Let gifts go round the happy circle whereD
In giving and receiving each may shareD
And mutual kindness showC
-
The meaning deep like mysteryE
That lies in holly bough or mistletoeC
May thousands never fathom yet who knowC
And hail the Christmas treeE
-
So strong a hold on human thoughtF
Has this glad day that seasons all the yearG
With the rich flavoring of hearty cheerG
It ne'er shall be forgotH
-
It is the milestone on life's roadI
Where we may lay our burdens down and takeJ
A look at souvenirs for love's dear sakeJ
So prettily bestowedI
-
Upon its shining tablet we may writeK
If like the good Samaritan in deedL
A record that the angel band shall readM
With impulse of delightK
-
And this is why on Christmas mornN
The world should smile and wear its brightest glowC
Because some nineteen hundred years agoC
A little child was bornN
