Christmas At Church Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCCAB DEFFDE GHIIGH JKLLJK MNOOMN PQRRSQ OEDDOE

'Twas drawing near the holidayA
When piety and pity metB
In whisp'ring council and agreedC
That Christmas time in homes of needC
Should be remembered in a wayA
They never could forgetB
-
Then noble generosityD
Took youth and goodness by the handE
And planned a thousand charming waysF
To celebrate this best of daysF
While hearts were held in sympathyD
By love's encircling bandE
-
So multitudes together cameG
Like wandering magi from the EastH
With precious gifts unto the KingI
With every good and perfect thingI
To satisfy a shivering frameG
Or amplify a feastH
-
The angels had looked long and farJ
The happy scene to parallelK
When through the sanctuary doorL
Were carried gifts from shop and storeL
The treasures of the rich bazaarJ
To give but not to sellK
-
As once the apostolic twelveM
Of goods allotment madeN
So equity dealt out with careO
The widow's and the orphan's shareO
And of the aged forced to delveM
At drudging task or tradeN
-
Oh could the joy which tears expressP
That out of gladness comeQ
Be mirrored in its tender glowR
Before the beautiful tableauR
Ingratitude and selfishnessS
Would shrink abashed and dumbQ
-
If every year and everywhereO
Could kindness thus expandE
In bounteous gratuityD
To all her children earth would beD
A flowery vale like Eden fairO
A milk and honey landE
