By The Sea Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD EFEF GHGH IJIJ AKAL AMAM

I am longing to dwell by the seaA
And dip in the surf every dayB
And height of subaqueous gleeA
With the sharks and the porpoises playB
-
To novelty ever inclinedC
Instead of a calm evening sailD
'Twould suit my adventurous mindC
To ride on the back of a whaleD
-
I want to disport on the rocksE
Like a mythical mermaiden belleF
And comb out my watery locksE
Then dive to my cavernous cellF
-
I want to discover what lendsG
Such terror to all timid folksH
That serpent whose mystery tendsG
To make one believe it a hoaxH
-
They say he's been captured at lastI
The news is too good to be trueJ
He's slippery cunning and fastI
And likes notoriety tooJ
-
Once had I such longings to beA
A sailor those wishes are o'erK
But ever in dreams of the seaA
My horoscope rests on the shoreL
-
Oh give me a home by the seaA
A cottage a cabin a tentM
Existence should ecstasy beA
Till summer were joyfully spentM
