A Prisoner Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Where I can see him all day longA
And hear his wild spontaneous songA
Before my window in his cageB
A blithe canary sits and swingsC
And circles round on golden wingsC
And startles all the vicinageB
When from his china tankardD
He takes a dainty drinkE
To clear his throatF
For as sweet a noteF
As ever yet was caroledF
By lark or bobolinkE
-
Sometimes he drops his pretty headF
And seems to be dispiritedF
And then his little mistress saysG
Poor Dickie misses his chickweedF
Or else I've fed him musty seedF
As stale as last year's orangesH
But all the time I wonderI
If we half comprehendF
In sweet song wordsJ
The thought of birdsJ
Or why so oft their rapturesJ
In sudden silence endF
-
They do not pine for forest wildsJ
Within the blue Canary islesJ
As exiles from their native homeK
For in a foreign domicileL
They first essayed their gamut trillL
Beneath a cage's gilded domeK
But maybe some sad throbbingE
Betimes their spirits stirsJ
Who love as weM
Dear libertyM
That they admired and pettedF
Are only prisonersJ
