Let Me Be To Thee As The Circling Bird Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBAABBA CDCECE

Let me be to Thee as the circling birdA
Or bat with tender and air crisping wingsB
That shapes in half light his departing ringsB
From both of whom a changeless note is heardA
I have found my music in a common wordA
Trying each pleasurable throat that singsB
And every praised sequence of sweet stringsB
And know infallibly which I preferredA
-
The authentic cadence was discovered lateC
Which ends those only strains that I approveD
And other science all gone out of dateC
And minor sweetness scarce made mention ofE
I have found the dominant of my range and stateC
Love O my God to call Thee Love and LoveE
