With wandering eyes and aimless zealA
She hither thither goesB
Her speech her motions all revealA
A mind without reposeB
-
She climbs the hills she haunts the seaC
By madness tortured drivenD
One hour's forgetfulness would beC
A gift from very heavenD
-
She slumbers into new distressE
The night is worse than dayF
Exulting in her helplessnessG
Hell's dogs yet louder bayF
-
The demons blast her to and froH
She has no quiet placeI
Enough a woman still to knowH
A haunting dim disgraceI
-
A human touch a pang of deathJ
And in a low delightK
Thou liest waiting for new breathJ
For morning out of nightK
-
Thou risest up the earth is fairL
The wind is cool thou art freeC
Is it a dream of hell's despairL
Dissolves in ecstasyC
-
That man did touch thee Eyes divineM
Make sunrise in thy soulN
Thou seest love in order shineM
His health hath made thee wholeN
-
Thou sharing in the awful doomO
Didst help thy Lord to dieP
Then weeping o'er his empty tombO
Didst hear him Mary cryP
-
He stands in haste he cannot stopQ
Home to his God he faresR
Go tell my brothers I go upS
To my Father mine and theirsR
-
Run Mary lift thy heavenly voiceT
Cry cry and heed not howU
Make all the new risen world rejoiceT
Its first apostle thouU
-
What if old tales of thee have liedV
Or truth have told thou artW
All safe with him whate'er betideV
Dwell'st with him in God's heartW
