The Church Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: A B C D E F G H I J K L M N O P

Painted angels guard the altarsA
-
And rest and shadows beam from blue eyesB
-
In incense fumes dirty lyes swimC
-
Figures stagger woebegone in the emptinessD
-
In the black kneeler a smallish whoreE
-
With faded cheeks resembles the MadonnaF
-
In golden beams wax figures hangG
-
Moon and sun circle the white bearded GodH
-
A shine of soft columns and skeletonsI
-
The sweet voices of boys died at the chancelJ
-
Very quietly rapt colors moveK
-
A flowing red from Magdalene's lipsL
-
A pregnant woman goes astray in grave dreamsM
-
Through this twilight full of masks flagsN
-
Her shadow crosses the saints' still waysO
-
The angel's rest in lime washed roomsP
