A Poem For Myself Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABABCDEFEFGFGHIHJHKL KLMMADADAB

I was born in MississippiA
I walked barefooted thru the mudB
Born black in MississippiA
Walked barefooted thru the mudB
But when I reached the age of twelveC
I left that place for goodD
My daddy chopped cottonE
And he drank his liquor straightF
Said my daddy chopped cottonE
And he drank his liquor straightF
When I left that Sunday morningG
He was leaning on the barnyard gateF
Left my mama standingG
With the sun shining in her eyesH
Left her standing in the yardI
With the sun shining in her eyesH
And I headed NorthJ
As straight as the Wild Goose FliesH
I been to Detroit ChicagoK
Been to New York city tooL
I been to Detroit ChicagoK
Been to New York city tooL
Said I done strolled all those funky avenuesM
I'm still the same old black boy with the same old bluesM
Going back to MississippiA
This time to stay for goodD
Going back to MississippiA
This time to stay for goodD
Gonna be free in MississippiA
Or dead in the Mississippi mudB
