We plantedA
Didn't harvestB
We labouredB
All in vainC
We daren't goD
To our farmsE
The marauders laid wasteB
Our lands eating up the yieldB

We labouredB
Thinking at harvestB
We'll reap abundanceF
God having blessed usG
Showers making the landB
Green with crops justB
Before the harvestB
The evil men swarmedB
On us like locustsH
Devouring the fruits of our labourI

Poet's note: The expectation of every farmer is to reap a bountiful harvest. However, in many Nigerian communities in recent years it is not the case. Farmers plant but don't reap because Fulani herdsmen take their cattle into farms and destroy the crops. At the end of the season the farmers have nothing to harvest because the crops have been eaten up by the cows. The poem descries this.
