A
-
I dreaded that first Robin soB
But He is mastered nowC
I'm accustomed to Him grownD
He hurts a little thoughB
-
I thought If I could only liveE
Till that first Shout got byF
Not all Pianos in the WoodsG
Had power to mangle meH
-
I dared not meet the DaffodilsI
For fear their Yellow GownJ
Would pierce me with a fashionK
So foreign to my ownD
-
I wished the Grass would hurryH
So when 'twas time to seeH
He'd be too tall the tallest oneK
Could stretch to look at meH
-
I could not bear the Bees should comeL
I wished they'd stay awayM
In those dim countries where they goB
What word had they for meH
-
They're here though not a creature failedN
No Blossom stayed awayM
In gentle deference to meH
The Queen of CalvaryH
-
Each one salutes me as he goesO
And I my childish PlumesP
Lift in bereaved acknowledgmentQ
Of their unthinking DrumsR
