Vanity Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABC DECF CBGB EBHBE BHCB ICH JK CLKE

Why all these toil and tussle tear us apartA
We're here today gone tomorrowB
Life's but a fleeting shadowsC
-
Thrones shall tumbleD
And the fields another beE
Whereat Solomon's ilksC
O' world's but the potter's willF
-
Look the lustre liliesC
Springing in the meadowB
Splendour of a thousand eyes stareG
Tis a stack of hay at eventideB
-
The rich's glory on the poor's miseryE
The world's unfairly justB
Someday shall the pen grow barrenH
And the sword impotentB
O' life's but a mysteryE
-
Up the castle a pile of miner's goldB
Yet rideth none to ElysianH
Whence misery gives a cold embraceC
Wealth's but a fleeing birdB
-
The world's a little stage goodness shall keep names aliveI
O' ants and nature shall teach us virtuesC
Of lore than pedagogs canH
-
Whence strife an inferno upon a thatched roofJ
Up up man to a reconcile table with our MakerK
-
When nature trumpsC
Hills and vales shall bowL
And the hoes and sceptre witherK
O' life's but vanityE
