The Little Old Lady In Lavender Silk Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABAB CDCD BEBE FGFG EHEH IJKJ DEDE

I was seventy seven come AugustA
I shall shortly be losing my bloomB
I've experienced zephyr and raw gustA
And symbolical flood and simoomB
-
When you come to this time of abatementC
To this passing from Summer to FallD
It is manners to issue a statementC
As to what you got out of it allD
-
So I'll say though reflection unnerves meB
And pronouncements I dodge as I canE
That I think if my memory serves meB
There was nothing more fun than a manE
-
In my youth when the crescent was too wanF
To embarrass with beams from aboveG
By the aid of some local Don JuanF
I fell into the habit of loveG
-
And I learned how to kiss and be merry anE
Education left better unsungH
My neglect of the waters PierianE
Was a scandal when Grandma was youngH
-
Though the shabby unbalanced the splendidI
And the bitter outmeasured the sweetJ
I should certainly do as I then didK
Were I given the chance to repeatJ
-
For contrition is hollow and wraithfulD
And regret is no part of my planE
And I think if my memory's faithfulD
There was nothing more fun than a manE
