WE LL PLANT a Tree of LibertyA
In the centre of the landB
And round it ranged as guardians beA
A vowed and trusty bandB
And sages bold and mighty soul dA
Shall dress it day by dayC
But woe unto the traitor whoD
Would break one branch awayC
-
Then sing the Tree of LibertyA
For the vow that we have madeE
May it so flourish that when weA
Are buried in its shadeE
Fair Womanhood and Love and GoodF
All pilgrims pure shall goG
Its growth to bless for happinessH
O may it flourish soG
-
Till felled by gold as bards have toldI
In the Old World once it grewD
But there its fruits were ever soldI
And only to the FewD
But here at last uncurs d by casteJ
Each man at Nature s callK
Shall pluck as well what none may sellL
The fruit that blooms for AllK
-
By gold twas felled as bards have heldM
In the Old World where it grewD
But here the power that there dispelledM
Its life shall be its dewD
The evil bout of Time is outN
And gold no more a thrallK
Shall here but build for Truth and gildO
The fruit that blooms for AllK
-
Then sing the Tree of LibertyA
And the men who shall defendP
Its glorious future righteouslyA
For this all glorious endP
That happiness all men to blessQ
Out with its growth may growG
Our Southern Tree of LibertyA
Shall flourish even soG
