Gray Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCC DDEEFFGG

The loud apt epithet applying sureA
The dim drawn image artfully obscureA
The perfect stanza framed of words as choiceB
And round as pearls yet liquid to the voiceB
A pith of phrase and musical arrayC
Of numbers these are the prime charms of GrayC
-
The naked majesty and open wonderD
Of true sublimity heaped in lines of thunderD
That artless grace wherewith the olden timeE
Dandled the happy infancy of RhymeE
That negligent melody which shames the trickF
Of wire drawn verse and verse drawn rhetoricF
These in our rich old Bards abound but theseG
To Gray were literary heresiesG
