Ecce Homo Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACCDEEDFF GHIGJJ

A man of sorrows and with grief acquaintedA
He bowed His beauteous head to the rude handsB
Of Pilate s hireling bandsB
And while beneath their cruel scourge He faintedA
Forgave them yearning through His shameful smartC
Even with a brother s heartC
And when upon their Roman cross they nailed HimD
With mocking hatred and scorn s bitter smileE
Hark How He prayed the whileE
Nature s extremest agony assailed HimD
Father Thy mercy unto these renewF
They know not what they doF
-
For the great precept of His ChristianityG
Was always Live in charity yea liveH
To love and to forgiveI
That so My spirit may through all humanityG
Pass ever downward with a widening birthJ
Till peace possess the earthJ
