Love, The Soul Of Poetry Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABBACC CCCCDE FGGFBB

WHen first Alexis did in Verse delightA
His Muse in Low but Graceful Numbers walk'tB
And now and then a little Proudly stalk'tB
But never aim'd at any noble FlightA
The Herds the Groves the gentle purling StreamsC
Adorn'd his Song and were his highest TheamsC
-
But Love these Thoughts like Mists did soon disperseC
Enlarg'd his Fancy and set free his MuseC
Biding him more Illustrious Subjects chooseC
The Acts of Gods and God like Men reherseC
From thence new Raptures did his Breast inspireD
His scarce Warm Heart converted was to FireE
-
Th' exalted Poet rais'd by this new FlameF
With Vigor flys where late he crept alongG
And Acts Divine in a Diviner SongG
Commits to the eternal Trompe of FameF
And thus Alexis does prove Love to beB
As the Worlds Soul the Soul of PoetryB
