The Pin Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis
Rhyme Scheme: ABABCC DEDEFF GHGHII JAJAKK BDBDAA LMLMNNDear me what signifies a pin | A |
I'll leave it on the floor | B |
My pincushion has others in | A |
Mamma has plenty more | B |
A miser will I never be | C |
Said little heedless Emily | C |
- | |
So tripping on to giddy play | D |
She left the pin behind | E |
For Betty's broom to whisk away | D |
Or some one else to find | E |
She never gave a thought indeed | F |
To what she might to morrow need | F |
- | |
Next day a party was to ride | G |
To see an air balloon | H |
And all the company beside | G |
Were dress'd and ready soon | H |
But she poor girl she could not stir | I |
For just a pin to finish her | I |
- | |
'Twas vainly now with eye and hand | J |
She did to search begin | A |
There was not one not one the band | J |
Of her pelisse to pin | A |
She cut her pincushion in two | K |
But not a pin had slidden through | K |
- | |
At last as hunting on the floor | B |
Over a crack she lay | D |
The carriage rattled to the door | B |
Then rattled fast away | D |
Poor Emily she was not in | A |
For want of just a single pin | A |
- | |
There's hardly anything so small | L |
So trifling or so mean | M |
That we may never want at all | L |
For service unforseen | M |
And those who venture wilful waste | N |
May woeful want expect to taste | N |
