To Virginia (on Her Birthday) Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABACDEEFFDGGHHIH

Your past is past and never to returnA
The long bright yesterday of life's first yearsB
Its days are dead cold ashes in an urnA
Some held for you a chalice for your tearsC
And other days strewed flowers upon your wayD
They all are gone beyond your reachE
And thus they are beyond my speechE
I know them not so that your first gone timesF
To me unknown lie far beyond my rhymesF
But I can bless your soul and aims to dayD
And I can ask your future to be sweetG
And I can pray that you may never meetG
With any cross you are too weak to bearH
Virginia Virgin name and may you wearH
Its virtues and its beauties fore'er and fore'erI
I breathe this blessing and I pray this prayerH
