Cup your hands to scoop up sleepA
as you would draw a grain of waterB
and the forest will come a green cloudC
a birch trunk like a chord of lightD
and a thousand eyelids flutteringE
with forgotten leafy speechF
then you will recall the white morningE
when you waited for the opening of the gatesG
-
you know this land is opened by a birdH
that sleeps in a tree and the tree in the earthI
but here is a spring of new questionsJ
underfoot the currents of bad rootsK
look at the pattern on the bark whereL
a chord of music tightensJ
the lute player who presses the fretsM
so the silent resoundsM
-
push away leaves a wild strawberryN
dew on a leaf the comb of grassM
further a wing of a yellow damselflyO
and an ant burying its sisterB
a wild pear sweetly ripensM
above the treacheries of belladonnasM
without waiting for greater rewardsM
sit under the treeN
-
cup your hands to draw up memoryN
of the dead names dried grainP
again the forest a charred cloudC
forehead branded by black lightD
and a thousand lids pressedQ
tightly on motionless eyeballsM
a tree and the air brokenR
betrayed faith of empty sheltersM
-
that other forest is for us is for youS
the dead also ask for fairy talesM
for a handful of herbs water of memoriesM
therefore by needles by rustlingE
and faint threads of fragrancesM
no matter that a branch stops youS
a shadow leads you through winding passagesM
you will find and openR
our Ardennes ForestT
