A Description Of The King Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: ABCD EFGH IJKG

The king's beard on which sauces and ovationsA
fell until it became heavy as an axeB
appears suddenly in a dream to a man condemned to dieC
and on a candlestick of flesh shines alone in the darkD
-
One hand for tearing meat is huge as a whole provinceE
through which a ploughman inches forward a corvette lingersF
The hand wielding the sceptre has withered from distinctionG
has grown grey from old age like an ancient coinH
-
In the hour glass of the heart sand trickles lazilyI
Feet taken off with boots stand in a cornerJ
on guard when at night stiiffening on the throneK
the king heirlessly forfeits his third dimensionG
