On The Death Of Sir Tho: Peltham Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AABBCDEEAAFFGGDDHHEE IJKKDLMMMMAAAADD

Meerly for man's death to mourneA
Were to repine that man was borneA
When weake old age doth fall asleepeB
Twere foule ingratitude to weepeB
Those threads alone should pull out tearsC
Whose sodayne cracke breaks off some yearsD
Heere tis not so full distance heereE
Sunders the cradle from the beereE
A fellow traveller he hath beeneA
So long with Time so worne to skinneA
That were hee not just now bereftF
His Body first his soule had leftF
Threescore and tenne is Nature's dateG
Our journey when wee come in lateG
Beyond that time the overplusD
Was granted not to him but usD
For his own sake the Sun nere stoodH
But only for the peoples goodH
Even so his breath held out by aireE
Which poore men uttered in theyr prayerE
And as his goods were lent to giveI
So were his dayes that they might liveJ
Soe ten years more to him were toldK
Enough to make another oldeK
O that Death would still doe soeD
Or else on good men would bestowL
That wast of years which unthrifts flingM
Away by theyr distemperingM
That some might thrive by this decayM
As well as that of land and clayM
'Twas now well done no cause to moaneA
On such a seasonable stoneA
Where death is but an Host we sinneA
Not bidding welcome to his InneA
Sleepe sleepe thy rest good man embraceD
Sleepe sleepe th' ast trode a weary raceD
