Song V. - On Every Tree, In Every Plain Poem Rhyme Scheme and Analysis

Rhyme Scheme: AB CCAA DDAA EEFG HHII JJHG KKHH

Ah ego non aliter tristes evincere morbosA
Optarem quam te sic quoque velle putemB
-
On every tree in every plainC
I trace the jovial spring in vainC
A sickly langour veils mine eyesA
And fast my waning vigour fliesA
-
Nor flowery plain nor budding treeD
That smile on others smile on meD
Mine eyes from death shall court reposeA
Nor shed a tear before they closeA
-
What bliss to me can seasons bringE
Or what the needless pride of springE
The cypress bough that suits the bierF
Retains its verdure all the yearG
-
'Tis true my vine so fresh and fairH
Might claim awhile my wonted careH
My rural store some pleasure yieldI
So white a flock so green a fieldI
-
My friends that each in kindness vieJ
Might well expect one parting sighJ
Might well demand one tender tearH
For when was Damon insincereG
-
But ere I ask once more to viewK
Yon setting sun his race renewK
Inform me Swains my friends declareH
Will pitying Delia join the prayerH
